Description

Week 2 of Small Boat Explorers Summer Camp for youth aged 7-17.

Students must have skills of at least one summer camp week-long session to qualify as crew to participate, or can also meet this criteria by challenging the course material from Week 1. If students took 2 weeks they can skipper one of the small boats on the adventures.

The adventure begins! Students are sailing longer distances each day of this week aboard the small boats. They become Crusing Kids after this week learning how to anticipate the weather, the patterns of tides and currents, wind patterns and how to get the most out of their sailing experiences.

The week begins with capsize drills on land, then on the water, to advance knowledge of water safety. This second session follows ASA 110 curriculum (https://asa.com/certifications/asa-110-basic-small-boat-sailing/) covering topics such as: boat control and sail management, seamanship, docking, new knots, advanced line handling, safe towing procedures, and introduction to local navigation.

At the end of the week, we make their skills check a fun experience by sailing to a local beach for lunch and then returning for their ASA 110 certification written exam.
