Brandon Casbeer took 1st weekend; scheduled 2nd weekend for June

At ASA 103 It is time to aquire your own sailing gloves, waterproof top layer (aka foul weather gear) and waterproof sailing boots, These help to keep you dry when sailing year round. Need your own inflatable lifevest, preferably with a harness built in, and a 6' tether. Best kind have a built in bungie. Dress for this class acording to the weather reports - can view current or by the month predictions with links from our website front page.

Must purchase your ASA 103 book, Cruising Made Easy. Can find it at our office, ASA website or on-line as an ibook or android google play book. Take the 4 quizes in the book, every few chapters. Look in your ASA logbook for the ASA 103 syllabus - as a guide to your studies.

2 weekends (or 4 weekdays / or mix): evening workshops + 4 full days of sailing &written exam(after passing 100% on the water skills evaluation)

The first evening workshop (6pm-8:30pm) starts the ashore knowledge with review of the book quiz questions. Following morning, go straight to the boat for 2 full days of sailing. Second section has an evening of introduction to Navigation before the last 2 days of hands on training. A favorite and unique part of the last 2 days is a 'zero visibility' sailing exercise into the Central San Francisco Bay.

Very comprehensive course for new SF Bay Skippers or boat owners. For self-taught sailors we recommend challenging ASA 101, then starting your training with this course. It is a good course to fill in skills, and aknowledge gaps that are most common to miss on - if learning with/from friends or family.

I.e.:  mis-positionning your hands on the lines when pulling them -is a main culprit for lots of sailors' lower back pains! Thumbs toward you and up -is key :).

When pass on-the-water skills at 100%, will follow with the 100 question ASA certification test.  Holder of the 103 certification is qualified to sail up to 30' boats in semi-protected waters, accepted world-wide. For San Francisco Bay sailing, ASA 103 allows sailing in SF Bay's semi protected micro climates that can be reached from our location: South and East of Bay Bridge

(!need 104 for crossing under bridges and sailing in Central Basin or go to the GG Bridge!).

After graduation:

~ can schedule the free independent half-day practice session (4h) with your 101 classmates on one of our Ranger 23'.

~ can participate in 1 Wednesday night sail at no cost, between the course weekends or up to 30 days after completion of the course.( Members get 1 extra Free WedEve for 1mo)

~ can charter boats up to 30' with Afterguard, for half or full day, with at least 1 Competent Crew onboard.

Please email info@afterguard.net or call 510-535-1954 if you have any questions.
