ASA 101

In this three day course, ASA 101, Basic Keelboat Sailing, you will “Learn to skipper a 20' - 27' sloop-rigged keelboat by day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.”— https://asa.com/certifications/

You will meet your instructor at the office, 1285 Embarcadero (Oakland CA 94606) on Friday at 6:00pm for a two to two-and-a-half hour lecture. You should bring a lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

You should wear closed toe shoes, a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, and bring sunscreen for your time on the water.

Included in the cost are:

• The ASA logbook signed by your instructor—Your passport to sailing adventures world-wide;
• The ASA 101 Multiple choice test and the on-the-water skills test;
• Your ASA Certification Sticker will be mailed to you by ASA;
• 90 day free trial for ASA membership (to be activated through the email-link received from ASA)

You will need to purchase the textbook separately. Available at our office (hardcopy) or ASA website (hardcopy /ebook).

Once certified to ASA 103, can schedule a free independent half-day practice session (4h) with your 101 classmates - on Ranger 23'.
